Hundreds of presidential security forces held a preparatory rally at the NU One Century Peak Reception at Gelora Delta Sidoarjo, Sunday (5/2/2023). The peak event was held on Tuesday (7/2/2023).
SURABAYA, KOMPAS — Preparations to hold the peak event of the centennial anniversary of NU at the Gelora Delta Sidoarjo Stadium, East Java, Tuesday (7/2/2023), have been completed. The Nahdliyin (NU followers) and the general public who are coming to the location are asked to be orderly, disciplined and follow the committee's instructions. Residents can also watch the event through live streaming.
"Being in or outside the stadium is the same. There is no need to be inside. What is sought is the blessing," said secretary-general of the executive board of NU (PBNU) Saifullah Yusuf, better known as Gus Ipul, on Monday (6/2).
A series of events began at midnight with a reading of holy verses of the Koran, shalawat (prayers), cultural carnivals, a bazaar for micro, small and medium-sized enterprise (MSME) products, as well as live performances by Maher Zain, Rhoma Irama, Slank and Ishari. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Vice President Ma'ruf Amin are scheduled to attend the event.
In Surabaya on Monday, the International Fikih Civilization Conference was held. In his remarks, Ma'ruf Amin emphasized the ulama must be able to answer the dynamics of new civilizations that arise due to globalization. Provisions in Islamic law or fikih, which is a response to the previous generation, may be no longer suitable. Therefore, the construction of a new, more suitable fikih is needed.
"I invite all ulama to be involved more actively in responding to every new problem so as to create fikih that is more in line with the times," said Vice President Amin who is also a former Rais Aam of the PBNU.
He invited the ulama to take part in the formulation of the global order for the realization of a more just and peaceful world. The ulama must be able to solve global problems, especially poverty, conflict, war and environmental damage. The ulama should encourage the realization of the substance of global ethics, namely in mutual understanding, mutual respect, interdependence and cooperation among nations.

President Joko Widodo and Mrs. Iriana Joko Widodo arrived at Juanda International Airport, Sidoarjo Regency, East Java Province, on Monday afternoon, 6 February 2023. The President will attend the One Century NU event at Gelora Delta Sidoarjo, Tuesday (7/2/2023).
Conscience
Rais Aam of the PBNU, KH Miftachul Akhyar, said NU specifically encouraged Muslims to revive their conscience in building social responsibility. This is done not only through discourse, but also by actions and building public opinions about social responsibility.
According to Rais, the community has been affected by a misunderstanding of the concept of individual freedom and ignoring public responsibility. Therefore, he assessed that Islamic civilization must be rebuilt by avoiding the characteristics of negative freedom.
PBNU General Chairman KH Yahya Cholil Staquf said in November 2022 NU initiated the Group of 20 Religion Forum (R20), an international forum that gathered religious leaders, sects and beliefs from a number of countries. In this forum, an agreement was reached by all religious leaders to build a movement to mobilize the strength for the struggle in realizing a more peaceful and harmonious world.
After the R20, religious communities around the world began to strive for initiatives. Likewise, NU initiated the International Fikih Conference of Civilization as a contribution to the struggle to build a more noble civilization.
According to Gus Yahya this performance is the first simple step, but is expected to be the beginning of a long struggle. He hoped that this time the conference is not the first and last Fikih Civilization Conference, but can be held routinely. Deputy grand imam of Al Azhar, Muhammad al-Dhuwaini, hoped that this conference will produce concepts and work plans that are able to face real challenges. The results of the conference should not just be theoretical, but can be applied and provide benefits to the people.
"Don't sink into partial text without understanding the context," he said.
With regard to the development of a fikih civilization, he believed that peace could only be done by institutions led by honest figures who have a vision and are supported by a stable organizational capacity. Marginalization must be eliminated, because it threatens the freedom of others. Therefore, Muslims need to take a role in initiating goodness, preventing badness and creating peace.
